Body Makeover... REJECTED by my trainer

It is with much surprise, sadness and contemplation that I write this blog post... I don't live in a world of fairy floss and unicorns but I have to say that my life is fairly blessed.

I laugh every day, I love my home and my beautiful cat and best mate Neo. I have a wonderful and talented assistant who is just as passionate about my business as I am and makes life so much easier. My family is amazing and I have some wonderful friends.

I get to review beauty products, restaurants and bars, interview celebrities and do cool activities like feed tigers and flying trapeze.

I love what I do and I love my life, so at the beginning of the year when I made the decision to lose the excess weight I'd gained as a result of the medication I take due to a health condition I have (and will continue to have to take for the rest of my life) it was a big step. I'd already lost a decent amount on my own, I'd quit smoking on my own - which is a massive feat in itself, so the next step was to find an amazing supportive trainer to guide me and help me through the remaining kg loss via exercise and nutrition.

Enter Daniel Carruthers - we had agreed on a business arrangement that he would train me and help me reach my goal and I would promote him and his services via my blog postings after each session, Facebook as well as weekly webzine articles through the magazine that I write for GC Mag in total giving him exposure and publicity to over 80,000 plus readers and then some - so not a bad deal really, and the arrangement was I would get about 3 x 30min sessions per week plus nutrition and emotional support of course.

Since then i've tried repeatedly to get in touch with him to organise my sessions via phone calls, text messages, emails and Facebook - all ignored and not responded to. I got to the point I felt like a stalker that was chasing a guy after a first date... It was and is a devastating feeling.

To be rejected by a trainer. It's 27 January 2012 and I've still not heard back from him, I still don't know why he's not only broken a business contract but also broken my health contract which meant so much to me. He promised me he'd help me, this wasn't just a vanity thing for me to get "sexy and beautiful" this was a health thing for me.

And we're nearly in February which means I've lost a month of training and nutrition support to reach my goal weight which was my birthday 7 March.

I'm hurt, disappointed and embarrassed as it's impacted on my business and the content I was providing to GC Mag and my blog.

It's also now made me think slightly differently about Personal Trainers, although I know you're not all like this, but to be ignored and rejected after just one session has quite affected me. Especially when we met a few times and I thought " he seems nice and compassionate and honest and genuine, he'll look after me...."

UPDATE: I have since heard from Daniel, who has apologised for not being in contact with me. As i stated on my Facebook status when this blog was posted, this was not a "name and shame" and I have not said anything derogatory or defamatory about Daniel or his training in this posting. I was merely voicing my disappointment that due to a lack of communication on his part I was unable to fulfill my body makeover challenge.

My relationship with foundation has been abit of a rocky ride.

Growing up in a small surfy town, I neverwore a drop of foundation outside of the dance studio. This all changed when Imoved to the glamorous Gold Coast.

The liquid foundation is easy to apply-with a pump action dispenser it blends easily onto my skin and provides mediumcoverage. The powder can be used over the top of the liquid, and can also beused as a facial contour.

I have slightly sensitive skin, so I amhappy to learn that this mineral foundation is paraben free and containsnatural anti aging and sun protection ingredients.

The finished look as you can see isfantastic - my skin looks airbrushed and there is not a single freckle in sight!A perfect base to begin any beauty look.

This product will definitely be my new go to fornights out on the town and for busy days at work.

So, the items you'll need to get going is pretty simple - a pair of nail scissors; a small container of water and some cotton wool.

The Perfect Pony Tail by NV Design Studio

This week apprentice Rachael practiced the "perfect pony tail" on me which is the major component in the Redken 5th Avenue NY Session Styling Audition that she is attending soon.
Here's how you can achieve the Perfect Pony Tail...
What you'll need:

Step 1:
Start with Clean wet hair. Use a quarter pump of Redken Argan Oil and emulsify in to hands. Apply to mids and ends. Use 10c piece of Redken Hardware 16 and apply around the hairline and nape for sleekness and shine.

Step 2:
For a smoother sleeker blow dry take smaller brick sections.

Step 3:
Using a large round brush, on low fan and high heat with a nozzle for direction, blow dry and focus on roots for volume and lift up from natural hair growth. This creates the foundation for the perfect pony tail.

Step 4:
When reaching crown, section from ear to ear.

Step 5:
Blow dry roots to ends, away from front hairline towards crown until completely dry. Section off temple to crown and clip.

Step 6:
Using GHD Styler, lightly straighten to smooth.

Step 7:
Section ear to ear. Using boar bristle brush, pull sections into pony tail onto crown then secure with hair tie and bobby pins.

Insert bobby pin threaded through hair tie at top of pony tail

Then wrap around pony tail as tight as possible

Insert other bobby pin into bottom of pony tail to secure

Step 8:

To conceal hairband, plait or braid small section from underneath the ponytail and wrap around the base of the ponytail and pin to secure.

Step 9:
For a modern edge, add confused curls

Day 2 and the tilers arrived to do the waterproofing and lay the floor tiles down and part of the wall tiles down... so with the vanity in the hallway and the remaining tiles in the lounge room and the landing of my stairwell, my apartment is looking as about as chaotic as my brain - BUT it's getting done WINNING! Last week I received a lovely package from Face of Australia's PR agent to review a couple of products from their range. One of their products was their liquid eyeliner, as pictured above, which when I opened it up i freaked a little because eye liner, especially liquid eyeliner is one thing I am yet to master. In fact, eye make up in general is one area I stay away from... unless i'm getting a professional to do it for me lol.

Needless to say, now is a good a time as ever to learn, and probably the best way to review a product.....

As you'll see by the pictures below i'm not wearing any other make up, I wanted to try it raw and real. AND this was my one and only and FIRST EVER attempt with liquid eyeliner.

Face of Australia you've totally got me hooked.

I've always envied the "cat eye" look, it's so sexy, and whenever I get my make up professionally done, that is the only look I ever ask for, so now to be able to do it myself, I am so incredibly excited - sorry MUA's I may no longer need you :(

Being such a small bottle made it manageable to hold in my hands and the actual applicator itself is ultra fine for neat defined lines as you can see. And for extra selling power, it's water resistant!

The product wasn't gluggy or messy, it didn't clump or drip either - I feel like i've been missing out all this time lol

It goes without saying, i'll be wearing it every day I have something fabulous on now... you just look out in my future pics - wink wink

At only $8.95 this is an incredible buy, and if you're a beginner like me, this is such a great product to learn with and to build your confidence or if you're experienced to get that sleek polished look.

As I said, the photos taken below were after my first attempt which took me literally only a couple of minutes, it was so easy to apply. Time to experiment now for the X Factor - keep an eye out for my sexy eyes at Gold Coast Fashion Week - purrrrr xxxx

My Bathroom Renovation - Day 1

Today, my bathroom renovations finally started with Luke from GC Exteriors and Construction who became infamous from Channel 10's The Renovators (see my story for GC Mag).
My unit is a 40 year old unit right on the waterfront on the broadwater on the sunny Gold Coast. The entire bathroom and unit is pretty much made of concrete and the tiles were a lovely shade of brown, very retro.... attractive lol.
Below is what was accomplished in just a few short hours... talk about fast movers!

BEFORE:

there were cupboards there, the boys were just too quick for me

Finding a good hairdresser is like finding a good man... you think you've found the perfect one, then they go and f*ck it up and things are never the same and it can take years to recover, if at all...
Well although i'm yet to find Mr Right, I've definitely found Mrs Right Cut and Colour LOL
NV Design Studio @ Southport on the Gold Coast have literally changed my world and not just because they've given me beautiful hair as you've seen by the ongoing styling tips i've posted over the past months (see archives) and above when I went in for a refresher colour, but they've given me an added boost of confidence - hard to believe say the people who know me. But yes it's true. When you have beautiful hair as well as beautiful skin, you truly do feel amazing and it shows and people do notice.
I've said it before and i'll say it again, not a day goes by when i'm out and about that people don't comment on how great my hair looks and it makes me feel like a *SUPERSTAR* and I thank it to all the amazing girls at NV Design Studio.
So this is a special little post to say "you girls rock!"
And to any ladies on the Gold Coast who aren't feeling the love with their current hairdresser, I know you may feel like you're "cheating" but just go in and try them out, I guarantee you, you won't be disappointed!

Body Make Over Challenge - Day 1

So yesterday I started my first day of my body make over with my new fantastic trainer Daniel Carruthers.
Just to give you a little bit background on Daniel, he has a Bachelor of Business in Sports Management so has the "technical" qualifications and on top of that, he is a World Champion Athlete as well as a Level 1 Surf Coach, so I knew I was in totally good hands!

In the lead up to our start date, Daniel and I met up to discuss my needs and to have a chat about my history, my food habits, my laziness, and general health and well being. I figured if I wasn't completely honest with him about my lifestyle (including my coca cola addiction) there was no way he was going to be able to assist me in getting me to my dream body.
The great thing about Daniel, was his compassion and understanding... as a female and with a pre-existing health condition, it gave me peace of mind knowing he was going to really look after me and take everything into consideration - yayyy.
After providing him with my food diary for about a week and emailing him a picture of my dream body then setting the deadline for my birthday which is 7 March we finally managed to schedule a session - but with being a business owner and with Christmas and New Year it was tricky .... but yesterday was the day.....
Nervous as hell we met up at a great park nearby to my house and having recently lost 8kg on my own over the last few months (which he noticed - which made me feel good!) was still pretty excited.
The training started and he had me doing walking squat lunges (I think that's what they're called), push ups and sit ups.

It's now a day later and i can definitely feel the burn in my thighs and to top it off I did over 2 hours of walking today so i'm feeling a little tender today.
The next part of the challenge is the food part which i'm not looking forward to as i do love my food, but Daniel assures me that he has complete faith that my dream body is very achievable so i'm just waiting for my new food menu and I can't wait for our next session.

Aloe Vera Drinks

Currently there has been an influx of aloe vera drinks on the market, a few I have tried, to date all i've disliked, mainly because they were too sweet, too gluggy, the chunks of aloe were too big or generally just disliked the flavour so when I came across Aloe Verde aloe vera drink, to be honest my hopes weren't all that high... So when I pulled it out of the fridge on this lovely hot Sunday morning to give it a try to my delightful surprise I guzzled the 500ml bottle down in a nano second!
Whether it was the the natural honey or the white grape juice I don't know or maybe just the smaller chunks of aloe, whatever it was I wanted more and was slightly disappointed they didn't come in larger bottles. AND it even has Vitamin C.
For your health freaks out there, here are the stats:
2 x servings per package (500ml bottle)
Energy 400kj per serve
Sugars 22.45g per serve
Carbs 23.27g per serve
Currently on sale in Woolworths for around $2.00 this drink is refreshing and a great buy.

Rock Chick by NV Design Studio

With a big night out on the town planned, the fabulous girls at NV Design Studio decided to ROCK MY WORLD and do something a little different... I tell you when they brought out the coat hanger I did get a little concerned lol... Anywhere here was the result xx

STEP 1:

Start with clean wet hair. Apply Redken Allsoft Argan 6 through mid to ends.

STEP 2:

Apply approximately 5cent piece of Redken Aerate 08 Cream Mousse through roots to mid lengths from hair line to crown to create body.

STEP 3:

Used Redken 12 Align through the ends to assist with straightening.

STEP 4:

Section top into a rectangle from crown to front hairline.

STEP 5:

Using a hair dryer, rough dry underneath section.

STEP 6:

To create volume, use a roll brush when drying.

STEP 7:

Repeat step 5.

STEP 8:

Using the large GHD Styler, straighten the back section through to the crown.

STEP 9:

Taking small random sections cm by cm, weave through a coat hanger to create a zig zag.

STEP 10:

Clamp over the coat hanger with the GHD Styler to hold the zig zig.

STEP 11:

Unwind and voila :-)

A few months ago, I was in Target Runaway Bay and saw that they were selling some of the Spalding "toning" walking shoes that have been so widely talked about thanks to Kim Kardashian and her deal with Skechers. So rather than spending hundreds of dollars in case they didn't work, I thought for $50.00 (bargain!) i'd give them a whirl....
The minute I tried them on, I felt like an astronaut bouncing around, they were so soft and the curved wedge created a bizarre feeling but was extremely comfortable when I walked around the store - SOLD.
Being a Publicist I do my best to give back, so as part of my "community initiative" each week I deliver newspapers for a few hours so I was pretty keen to try them out and see if they worked.
After wearing them for the first day (for about 3 hours), my calf muscles were absolutely killing me, I could barely walk. Doing my paper deliveries was painful and a nightmare. I felt like i'd done a full day work out at the gym, it was ridiculous and to be honest I wasn't overly keen to try them again, not knowing whether they were working or whether they were just crappy shoes - just being honest....

These are the ones I bought

Needless to say, the next day I decided to give them another go and went for a leisurely stroll along the broadwater and my calves still hurt but i gritted through the pain... As the days went on, the discomfort subsided,my feet moulded into the shoe and I got used to the curved wedge.
Three months on, i'm 8 kgs lighter, my butt is definitely smaller and my hips and thighs have toned up dramatically and my cellulite is almost non existant. So apart from quitting smoking, the only things that have changed in my lifestyle were purchasing these shoes - WINNING!!!
So if you can get through the first few days of pain, I reckon go for it, they worked for me.
Yay for Spalding, Yay for Target, and at the moment, they are on sale for only $25.00 - can you believe it! I'm stocking up LOL

Living on the Gold Coast it seems every year there are at least three new emerging swimwear labels. And at the risk of being critical, it's a rare occurance that for ME, doing what I do (Stylist/Publicist/Writer/Reviewer/Brand Ambassador - gee talk about being a slashie LOL) that any of these labels make me sit up and go WOW. And being blessed with a naturally big bust attending the launch shows of these new labels is always a parade of less than 20cm squared of fabric (which seem to be the same design seen time and time again) on a size 6-8 model with enhanced breasts - not exactly appealing to the masses.... regardless, i applaud and admire - genuinely, then head home. The ending usually leaving me with feelings of negative self esteem which is never a good thing... but i digress.... So when I discovered this INCREDIBLE label I got excited.

Well, as another year comes to an end the question that is on everyone's lips... what are your New Year's Resolutions??

The whole concept of NEW YEAR resolutions is quite ridiculous to me really, I mean the word resolution means "a resolve or determination: to make a firm resolution to
do something".

We should be living our lives like this every day, I know I do. Live your life with conviction, don't put things off until tomorrow, until next week, next month, next year. Life is precious, you never know how much time you have, with the ones you love and this year has really brought that home.

So, enjoy tonight, celebrate it with your friends and family and promise to quit smoking, lose weight, get that great job, go on that holiday, but don't make it a New Year resolution make it a life promise a YOU promise. Because you deserve it!!

Being a blogger, having an easy to use camera is a pretty important part of the deal. Now I don't pretend to be a photographer by any means, nor do I want to be, but I do want to be able to take nice photos to show all you the beautiful things in my life...

The Olympus VG 140 Smart Digital Compact Camera, not only being a sexy little beast that it is (don't you think??!) it's sleek (smaller than my blackberry), lightweight, and soooo easy to use. Okay here are the stats:

14 Mp, 5 x zoom, a massive 3.0" LCD screen (see pic below), HD movie - yes you can film too (woohoo) AND it even has this cool feature where you can have magic filters like pop art, drawing, soft focus and the list goes on - oh and they come in black, pink, silver and blue.

Below is a pic I took last night on the pop art filter - not too shabby :-).

Plus with the SD memory card, I can just take it out and pop it straight into my laptop and upload straight to my blog - no fuss.

At the moment these camera's are retailing for as little as $100.0 so it's a great price for a great quality camera with a great quality brand.
